Lara Thoms is interested in socially engaged, site-specific, and participatory possibilities in contemporary art and performance. Lara’s work is in direct dialogue with people beyond the arts to interrogate notions of power and visibility. Lara is currently a co-artistic director of APHIDS, Victoria’s longest running experimental arts organisation, and for ten years has been part of the collective Field Theory.

Krabstadt Education Center (KEC) originated in Krabstadt, a fictitious town where all the Nordic countries send their unwanted people and problems. The zig-zag trajectory of KEC’s formation traverses between being a drawn element in an animated fictional universe and an actual context hosting educational time. The developers of KEC are Krabstadt founders (Ewa Einhorn & Jeuno JE Kim) in collaboration with artist Karolin Meunier.

Krabstadt works with animated films, digital games, performances, sculptures, printed matters, academic texts, and an art school. Krabstadt’s animated film, Whaled Women, was premiered at the 2012 Berlin Biennale. The second film, Sex and Taxes, was premiered at the Moscow film festival 2014. Krabstadt performances range from pitches at the Cartoon Media, Torino Film Lab, staged discussions at the Moderna Museet Malmö, Sweden, and performative lectures in academic conferences.

Ewa Einhorn is a visual artist and filmmaker working with animation, satirical drawing and documentary formats. She currently teaches at HDK-Valand, Gothenburg University (SE). Influenced by popular culture, her work seeks to unhinge everyday assumptions by misusing language and images. The topics relate to the construction of societies, more specifically the relations between political rhetoric and nations as brands in the Nordic context. Since 2009 she has been working together with Jeuno JE Kim.

Jeuno JE Kim is an artist with a background in feminist theology, music, and radio. Kim’s artistic practice and research focus on sound, performance, video, and text. Her peripatetic interest has an interdisciplinary framework, mixing disparate methods and cultural cannons. Her work is influenced by the ongoing modernization in Korea and the Pacific East region, and the urgency of the political, sociological, and cultural issues that permeate this reality such as nationalism, identity construction, and historical narration.

Karolin Meunier is an artist and writer. Her performance, text, and videos observe how access to individual experience is accomplished through cultural and standardized practices. Her research is oriented towards feminist writing strategies, translation processes, alternative learning methods, and the politics of dialogue. She is part of the collective publishing house b_books in Berlin and her artist book on the work of Italian feminist Carla Lonzi is forthcoming in 2022.

Köken Ergun is a Turkish artist and filmmaker. His films often speak of communities unknown to the public at large and the importance of rituals within such groups. He works closely with ethnographers, historians, and sociologists in observing the subjects of his films. Some of these works are now included in the public collections of museums such as the Centre George Pompidou, the Greek National Museum of Contemporary Art, and Berlin’s Stadtmuseum. Köken is also a co-founder of !f Istanbul: Festival of Independent Films and After the Archive?, an initiative that investigates the role and function of archives in public memory.

Khairani Barokka, or Okka, focuses on disability justice, environmental issues, and anticolonialism in her art and writing practices. She hails from Jakarta and lives in London, with works presented widely on international platforms. Today she is a Research Fellow at the University of the Arts London, a UK Associate Artist at Delfina Foundation, and an Associate Artist at the National Center for Writing (UK). She is also Modern Poetry Translation’s Inaugural Poet-in-Residence, an ArtForum Must-See, and a NYU Tisch Departmental Fellow.

Kenji Makizono uses interviews and collaborations as important parts of his method. Through visual art, he investigates the various problems posed by modernization and nuclear energy, especially in relation to Japan’s ongoing responsibility for the World War II. Ines is an artist, researcher, and writer, who teaches in the field of visual culture and material aesthetics with a queer-feminist, anti-racist, anti-colonial focus. In her research, she investigates how the global histories are characterised by cultural, class, and gender conflict. Her recent exhibitions include “Geistervölker” (ghost populations, 2021-2022) in kunsthalle wien, Vienna and “The Stomach and The Port”, Liverpool Biennial 2021.

Futuwonder is an artist collective who works to expand visual art practices and discourses in Bali, especially among female artists. In their activities, Futuwonder members try to address the various issues surrounding recognition, participation, and access for female art workers. They also work diligently in archiving and documentation. In the Jakarta Biennale 2021, Futuwonder is collaborating with several important Balinese artists of the previous generation: Mangku Muriarti, Gusti Ayu Natih Arimini, and Gusti Agung Galuh.

Erika Tan works in a variety of formats, relying on research and revolving around the principles of participatory structure. Starting with moving images and anthropological studies, she uses artifacts, archives and other forms of data to raise issues of postcolonialism and transnationalism. At the 2021 Jakarta Biennale: ESOK, Erika Tan is collaborating with Dan[s]ity from Jakarta.

Dương Mạnh Hùng is an independent translator/writer. His art practice weaves textual intricacy with visual subtlety to deliver responses and raise questions about the state of the world. His interest in the dynamics of translation comes with a close attention to Southeast Asian socio-political histories, including the region’s botanical art. Hung is also a co-founder of Bar De Force Press, an independent press focusing on translation of Vietnamese literature.

Hani RIstiawan graduated from the department of Conservation of Forest Resources and Ecotourism at IPB University, Bogor, in 2021. During his study, he delved in botanical art and

nature journaline, in which his passions in drawing and plants converge.

IDSBA (Indonesian Society of Botanical Artists) was founded in Bogor on the 20th November 2017, by Eunike Nugroho and Jenny Kartawinata. This group started from a few lovers of botanical art who met online and later on in learning activities of botanical art. Its membership is open to the public, and now has included botanical artists, botanical illustrators, botanists, biologists, and plant lovers in the country and abroad.

Trần Công Trọng founded the Navigator studio in Saigon. He sees an artwork not only as an aesthetic entity but also a medium to raise awareness. In his art practice, he combines the aesthetics of traditional watercolor with the “problem-solving” mindset in design. His works at times suggest cautionary tales about human role in the natural ecosystem.
