Komunitas Budaya Paseban was founded by artists, cultural figures, journalists, and activists in 2000. The main driving force is a husband and wife (the late) Gallis Agus Sunardi and Irawita. Gallis is a contemporary mask artist, while Ira is involved in the world of theater. Komunitas Paseban’s daily life is filled with various activities, from theater to crafts that have economic value. Each activity is based on the needs of the residents and uses a participatory citizen management system. Since 2003, Komunitas Paseban has involved local policy makers in each of its activities. Komunitas Paseban is also active in various activities outside the Paseban environment. They once took part in the 2015 Jakarta Bienale: Maju Kena Mundur Kena and became a residency for artists from several regions in 2013.
